Values

All Sudbury Hospice palliative care activities recognize and support the following values:

  1. The intrinsic value of each person as an autonomous and unique person.
  2. The value of life, the natural process of death, and the fact that both provide opportunities for personal growth and self-actualization, through celebrating of life and honouring death.
  3. The need to address residents’ and families’ suffering, expectations, needs, hopes and fears.
  4. Care is provided when the residents and/or family are prepared to accept it.
  5. Care is guided by quality of life as defined by the individual.
  6. Caregivers enter into a therapeutic relationship with residents and families based on dignity and integrity.
  7. A unified response to suffering strengthens communities.
  8. Everyone has the right to live and die in peace and with dignity and have access to physical, psychological, social, spiritual, practical, and bereavement care.
